Here’s what you need to know and how you can get involved in the Kick Start Scheme in Coventry and Rugby. 

About the Kick Start Scheme 

The scheme is aimed at creating 6-month paid work experience placements for 16-24-year-olds who are on universal credit. 

Employers will receive funding for 100% of the relevant National Minimum Wage for 25 hours a week, plus associated employer National Insurance contributions and employer minimum auto-enrolment pension contributions. 

The employer will also receive £1,500 per job placement available for setup costs, support and training. 

The criteria requires a business to provide a minimum of 30 job placements or partner with a group of organisations to offer this number of placementsthen nominate a representative organisation to make a bid for the scheme.

Kick Start Scheme in Coventry and Rugby 

Unemployment has doubled during the pandemic in Coventry and the number of those aged 16to24year-old has increased by 107% (Coventry City Council). 

And this is set to rise with unemployment predicted to be between 3-7m people on the back of the pandemic and recession. 

The opportunity for you as a business owner, is to support your local community by creating those job opportunities which will support the growth of your business. 

It is proven that having a job early on significantly improves a young persons job prospects. They are often caught in that catch22; no experience, need experience to work.  

The Kick Start Scheme represents a great opportunity for both young people and you as a business owner. 

But how do you take part? 

First of all, you need to consider is how you might manage the young person and any training required. Secondly, you should consider what roles would be helpful to your business and if you are a small to medium organisation then consider who you might partner with to access the scheme.
